2023 Update

As you can see, I haven’t been researching much this year, but next year I will be back on task!

Despite my lack of activity, I have had a constant stream of messages through the site. People are continuing to seek out the information stored here to help with their personal ancestry journeys. In particular, the post about Ots Toch is highly popular. Some of the site visitors are related to the Thorns, but not all. For instance, I heard from Reverend Warner’s descendants, and a researcher looking into Apthorpe Farm. This brings me so much pleasure, and often new pieces of the puzzle.

I still have so many unanswered questions and a couple that come to the top of my mind are about the champagne that Colonel Thorn imported to New York (I would love to know who produced it, and where in France it came from), and the whereabouts of Charles X’s carriage, which Thorn purchased and used to drive around in Paris.

With regard to my book on the life of the Thorn’s… I have written 6 chapters. Just as the pandemic began, I had a few New York publishers interested, but they vanished through that period. I have decided to finish the book before I look for a publisher again, and so that is my aim… to finish it 2024.

My youngest son got married this year in Hawaii and it was a wonderful life highlight. Curiously, he married a girl from the same area of New York in which Colonel Thorn grew up. I have a firm belief that this was not coincidental! How on earth did a young Australian man, who knew nothing about his American connections, find his life partner on the other side of the world. I would say, therein lies the pull of destiny.
