Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to discover much about Ellen Thorn, other than she was a beautiful young woman who married Edward Kirkland.
Ellen was born in Paris in 1833 and died in New York in 1891. She lived with her parents and /or siblings until around 1870. Even after her father and mother died, she continued to live with sisters Angeline and Alice and her brother, Eugene and his wife Mary, and all their children.
Dressmaker magazine mentioned Ellen’s social calendar: Mrs Eugene Thorn Kirkland 120 East 34th Street. Wednesdays. I’m not quite sure what this means, other than she was having an event every Wednesday.
Ellen Thorn and Edward Kirkland were married 13 Sep 1858 in Manhattan, New York City, New York.[6] He was born in 1834 in Utica, New York. They had two children, Eugene Thorn and Charles. Eugene married Lucia Louisa Stephens in 1883.
